Job Description
A Surgical Technologist II in the Operating Room (OR) is a certified healthcare professional with advanced experience and skills who actively assists surgeons during surgical procedures by preparing the sterile field, handling instruments and supplies, anticipating the surgeon's needs, and maintaining patient safety throughout the operation, often taking on more complex cases or leadership responsibilities compared to a standard Surgical Technologist I role.
Surgical Technologist II OR (4 positions)
Participates in the delivery of individualized peri-operative registered nursing care under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physician or a registered professional nurse. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to assure quality patient care.
- Basic knowledge of instrumentations.
- Establish/Maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
- Demonstrates correct and safe instrumentation passing.
- Participants in surgical counts (sponge, needle and instruments), per policy
- Adheres to Policy and Procedures, all regulatory standards and Patient Safety Goals.
- Participates in the nursing process for patients of all ages served.
- Participates in unit educational activities.
Qualifications
Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Successfully completed an accredited surgical technologist training program and holds a current credential as a certified surgical technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor. Or, has successfully completed a training program for surgical technology during the person's service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States.
Experience: None required.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Certification in Surgical Technology required. LPN licensure required for grandfathered employees. Obtain and/or maintain registration with the VA Dept of Health Professions.
Life Support: Must obtain/maintain AHA BLS-HCP.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Satisfactory completion of structured orientation program
