Job Description
A healthcare professional who works within a hospital's emergency room, assisting doctors and nurses by providing immediate medical care to patients, including monitoring vital signs, performing basic life support procedures, preparing patients for treatment, and maintaining equipment and supplies in a fast-paced environment.
ER EMT-Technician
Under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or Registered Nurse, in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Nursing delegation and supervision guidelines, assists with a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities.
These include:
- Assistance with activities of daily living, comfort care and nutritional support.
- Performance of selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and procedures as directed.
- Indirect patient care activities include maintaining a clean safe environment, ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and equipment, and data collection as pertinent to the patient population.
- Transports patients in hospital observing safety guidelines. Maintains advanced transport medical knowledge and abilities.
Qualifications
Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical program in paramedic studies preferred.
Experience: One year EMT-Advanced, EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic experience preferred.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Certified in the State of Virginia as an EMT-Advanced, EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic (required) and maintains National Registered status (preferred). AHA BLS - HCP, and ACLS required. PALS, Haz Mat Awareness, NRP and PHTLS or BTLS required within one year from date of hire.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Must maintain continuing education hours to meet re-certification status as required by State and National standards.

Shift: Evening/Night
- How many of each skillset, and what shifts are vacant: 19 total FT Night Shift openings (across 6 requisitions in our applicant tracking system)
- Pay scale, along with shift differentials: $18.70 to $26.18 per hour; Shift diffs = $1.00 weeknights, $2.00 weekends, and $6.00 recognized holidays
- Weekend/holiday/call requirements: Every other weekend and rotating holiday requirements. No call requirements.
- Interview process: Typically, a 1 hour in-person interview followed by a 1-2 hour job shadowing opportunity. If candidate is not local, we can schedule a video interview, but candidate would need to come on site to job shadow.
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be an EMT-Advance, EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic and certified in the state of Virginia. EMT-Basics cannot work in this role. These EMS professionals work at a lower scope of practice than they do in the EMS field, which makes it harder for applicants to be attracted to this role and why the pay structure is lower as well.
