Real Estate Attorney – Condo/Co-op Governance
Our client, a well-regarded NYC-based law firm, is seeking an experienced Real Estate Attorney to join their growing practice focused on cooperative and condominium law. The ideal candidate will have deep experience advising co-op and condo boards on governance, drafting governing documents, and filing with the NYS Attorney General.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as lead counsel for a portfolio of 30–50+ NYC co-op and condo boards
- Advise managing agents and board members on legal needs and governance matters
- Attend and manage board meetings (often evenings) and provide real-time legal counsel
- Draft and revise bylaws, proprietary leases, declarations, and house rules
- File offering plans, no-action letters, and amendments with the NYS Attorney General
- Handle shareholder/member disputes, election issues, and regulatory compliance
Qualifications:
- 7–10+ years practicing condo/co-op law in NYC
- Experience with governance, AG filings, and client-facing board representation
- Ability to work independently and handle fast-paced, high-pressure situations
- Clear, confident communication skills with sophisticated boards and stakeholders
Preferred Attributes:
- Existing relationships with managing agents or boards
- Proactive, solutions-focused mindset
- Ability to provide live legal guidance during meetings
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base, depending on experience
- % of originations + performance bonus
