Position Summary
Our client, a well-respected multibillion-dollar food/beverage manufacturer with well-known, iconic brands, seeks a hands-on, energetic Quality Manager for their key flagship plant.
As a key member of the plant leadership team, you’ll oversee all aspects of Food Safety and Quality — including regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, training, and team leadership.
You'll manage a large team of over 50 employees, and serve as the site’s key liaison for audits, product quality, and professional support to Sales, R&D, and Operations on customer support.

Location: Modesto, CA
Compensation: 120K - $150K base + 15% Bonus + 9% 401K match + strong benefits + excellent relocation.
Position reports to: Corporate Director, Food Safety and Quality.
Responsibilities:
- Food Safety & Quality Compliance: Ensure daily plant operations comply with all internal policies, customer requirements, and federal/state regulations (FDA, CFIA).
- Audit & Certification Leadership: Lead the plant’s HACCP, SQF, and FSMA programs. Serve as site liaison for regulatory and third-party audits and inspections.
- Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of QA professionals. Promote ownership of Food Safety & Quality throughout the facility.
- Training & Orientation: Deliver and maintain robust onboarding and annual training programs on GMPs, Food Safety, and Quality standards.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead and track performance on quality KPIs, including complaint reduction, audit readiness, and quality incident prevention. Own FS&Q pillar for continuous improvement systems.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Operations, Maintenance, R&D, and Sales to support production quality, resolve customer issues, and implement new product launches.
- Vendor Quality: Collaborate with Corporate QA to address supplier performance and drive corrective actions.
- Documentation & SOPs: Develop and maintain plant and lab SOPs. Manage the departmental budget.
- Sanitation & Environmental Monitoring: Ensure strong programs are in place for sanitation, pest control, and environmental monitoring.
Qualifications
- 10 + years of relevant experience in Quality Assurance in Food or Beverage manufacturing.
- 5+ years of solid Leadership experience.
- Excellent understanding of HACCP, GMPs, FSMA, SQF Code, Food Allergens, Microbiology and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities in Food Quality and Safety Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive food quality control systems, procedures, and policies compliant with all federal, provincial, and local regulations, including CFIA, HACCP, SQF, and GFSI.
- Lead all quality audits (internal and external), preparing documentation, facilitating auditor site visits, and implementing corrective actions as needed for food quality and safety certifications.
- Oversee daily quality assurance checks within the manufacturing facility, including process control monitoring, verification checks, sanitation inspections, and laboratory testing coordination.
- Train, mentor, and supervise quality assurance staff to ensure adherence to established food safety programs, GMP guidelines, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Analyze and report on quality metrics, non-conformances, and customer complaints, using data-driven root cause analysis to drive process improvements and minimize quality risks.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive QA documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), corrective action records, training logs, and regulatory reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, maintenance, and R&D to ensure product safety, compliance, and optimal process performance at all stages.
Qualifications for the Quality Manager – Food Safety and Assurance Role
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience in food quality assurance roles).
- 3+ years of progressive experience in a food manufacturing or food processing environment with hands-on responsibility for quality assurance and food safety management.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, GFSI, SQF, CCPs, and food safety regulations in Canada.
- Proven track record of successful food safety audit preparation and completion.
- Exceptional organization and communication skills with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience managing or leading teams in a manufacturing, production, or QA/QC environment.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with QA software systems is an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, teamwork, diversity, and continuous improvement.
